Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Teaching Assistant
Location: Leeds
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only

NextGen Teachers are currently working in partnership with a Specialist School in Leeds who are seeking to recruit full-time / permanent staff to support their children with SEND in school. The role will be to support a class of pupils with Complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities on a daily basis. You will be working with children in school who live with:

  • Neurological and Developmental conditions (Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Downs Syndrome, Autism)
  • Muscular and Orthopaedic conditions (Muscular Dystrophy and Scoliosis)
  • Respiratory and Feeding conditions (Cystic Fibrosis, Asthma, PEG, NG, or gastrostomy feeding)
  • Sensory Impairments (Visual / Hearing Impairments)
  • Other medical or complex health needs (Diabetes, Sleep disorders, Severe allergies, chronic fatigue)

About the Role

As a Complex Care Teaching Assistant, you will work under the guidance of class teachers and therapists to provide personalised learning support for pupils aged 2-19. You will play a vital role in promoting independence, communication, and well being, ensuring every child can access learning in a safe and nurturing environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Caring, empathetic, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with professionalism and flexibility.

  • Calm under pressure, with good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willing to undertake relevant training (e.g. manual handling, medical procedures).

  • Previous experience in a special school or care environment is desirable but not essential-what matters most is your attitude and commitment.
