SEMH Practitioner
SEMH Practitioner - Huddersfield SEN school
Location: Huddersfield
Contract: Full-time, Term Time Only
NextGen Teachers are currently supporting a Specialist School based in Huddersfield who are a caring and dynamic setting providing high-quality education for children and young people aged 5-19 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and associated learning difficulties.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient, and nurturing Teaching Assistants to join the school on a full-time basis starting as soon as possible.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting pupils who may have experienced barriers to learning, trauma, or difficulties regulating their emotions and behaviour.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Supporting pupils' social, emotional, and academic development in small group and 1:1 settings.
Building strong, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and self-belief.
Assisting the class teacher in delivering creative, therapeutic, and differentiated learning activities.
Implementing behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
Helping pupils develop self-regulation, resilience, and positive coping skills.
Contributing to a calm, safe, and inclusive school environment where every child feels valued.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
Passionate about supporting children and young people with SEMH needs.
Emotionally resilient, patient, and empathetic.
Able to remain calm under pressure and use positive behaviour strategies effectively.
A great communicator and team player.
Willing to learn and take part in ongoing professional development.
Experience in SEMH, youth work, or alternative provision is desirable - but not essential.
