Salary: £90 - £95 per day (dependant on experience)
About the Role
NextGen Teachers are proud to partner with a network of Specialist SEN (Special Educational Needs) schools across Leeds, who are seeking experienced and dedicated professionals to join their teams.
These schools follow a pathway-based learning model, ensuring every learner benefits from teaching strategies that are carefully tailored to their individual abilities, communication styles, and developmental needs.
Within the Towards Independence Pathway, all learners have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and follow a personalised programme of support. This pathway focuses on developing independence both within and beyond the school environment, offering a balanced curriculum that combines academic learning, vocational experiences, and community participation.
As a Learning and Life Skills Support Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering and supporting structured, subject-based teaching through semi-formal approaches. You'll help implement lessons such as 'Maths for Life' and life skills sessions that equip learners with the practical knowledge and confidence to become increasingly independent in real-life contexts.
Learners accessing this pathway typically have the cognitive understanding to engage with semi-formal teaching, make informed choices, and share attention with others - enabling meaningful progress toward independence and self-sufficiency.

- Work as part of a team where there is likely to be a high staff to learner ratio
- Use strategies such as project-based learning, Lego Therapy and visuals to support teaching
- Support learners who require in-depth emotional development skills in order for them to express their feelings and learn to co and self regulate using positive behaviours
- Provide sensory support where necessary, which might include sensory circuits
