SEN Class Teacher
Location: Leeds
Contract: Full-time (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm)
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: MPS-UPS + SEN Allowance
We are working in partnership with a range of specialist settings across Leeds that support children and young people with complex Special Educational Needs. We are seeking dedicated and compassionate SEN Class Teachers to play a key role in supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs.
These settings provide highly individualised learning pathways tailored to each pupil. Learners access adapted curricula focused on communication, sensory development, emotional regulation, and independence skills. Teaching approaches vary depending on need, from structured, routine-based learning to sensory and experiential provision.
The pupils you will support may have complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), epilepsy, multi-sensory impairments, muscular dystrophy, and other associated conditions. These roles require a balance of teaching, care, and consistency to ensure every learner can access education in a meaningful way.
The Role
- Plan and deliver personalised learning programmes in line with EHCP targets
- Create calm, safe, and inclusive classroom environments
- Use a range of communication and sensory approaches to engage learners
- Track and record progress through observations, assessments, and communication with families
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and external professionals
- Support pupils with personal care where required
- Assist with positioning and mobility to support physical development needs
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
- Deliver sensory-based interventions such as sensory circuits
- Contribute to wider school life and enrichment opportunities
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience working with children or young people with complex SEN
- Confidence supporting personal care needs
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Team Teach training (or willingness to complete it)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
