Contract: Monday to Friday (8:30am - 3:30pm), term-time only

NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting a Teaching Assistant for a welcoming mainstream primary school in Wakefield. This role will involve supporting pupils with additional needs, potentially on a 1:1 basis, helping them to access learning and thrive within the classroom environment.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support pupils with a range of needs, ensuring they feel supported, confident, and able to engage with their learning. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEN

  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and remain engaged in lessons

  • Assisting with the implementation of individual support plans and strategies

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, behaviour, and social development

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils to promote confidence and independence

  • Supporting with observation, assessment, and recording of pupil progress

  • Maintaining a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children in a school or similar setting

  • Knowledge and understanding of a range of SEN needs

  • A patient, caring, and adaptable approach

  • Willingness to support with personal care where required

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team

  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection

  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English, Maths, and Science
