NextGen Teachers are proud to be working with a specialist SEN school in Leeds to recruit a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Down syndrome, Autism, and a range of medical and physical needs, starting in January 2026.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality care and educational support to children and young people with complex needs in a highly supportive and nurturing environment.

The Role:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs

  • Supporting pupils with Down syndrome and Autism, adapting learning to meet individual needs

  • Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding and hygiene, where required

  • Supporting pupils with medical and physical needs, following care plans and guidance from healthcare professionals

  • Using communication methods such as PECS, Makaton and sensory approaches

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning and care plans

  • Helping to create a safe, calm and stimulating learning environment

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children or young people with PMLD and/or complex needs (school, care or health settings)

  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach

  • Confidence supporting pupils with medical, physical or personal care needs

  • A strong understanding of Autism and inclusive practice

  • Relevant SEN, care or health qualifications are desirable but not essential
