SEN Teaching Assistant - PMLD / Complex Needs

NextGen Teachers are proud to be working with a specialist SEN school in Leeds to recruit a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Down syndrome, Autism, and a range of medical and physical needs, starting in January 2026.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about delivering high-quality care and educational support to children and young people with complex needs in a highly supportive and nurturing environment.
The Role:
Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs
Supporting pupils with Down syndrome and Autism, adapting learning to meet individual needs
Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding and hygiene, where required
Supporting pupils with medical and physical needs, following care plans and guidance from healthcare professionals
Using communication methods such as PECS, Makaton and sensory approaches
Working closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to deliver tailored learning and care plans
Helping to create a safe, calm and stimulating learning environment
The Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with children or young people with PMLD and/or complex needs (school, care or health settings)
A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
Confidence supporting pupils with medical, physical or personal care needs
A strong understanding of Autism and inclusive practice
Relevant SEN, care or health qualifications are desirable but not essential
