NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in Keighley.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional and complex needs and wants to make a genuine difference to pupils' lives.

The school offers excellent specialist facilities, including a hydrotherapy pool, soft play and rebound therapy, providing pupils with opportunities to develop their confidence, independence and engagement in learning.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils and the wider school team to provide individualised, nurturing and consistent support throughout the school day.

You will support children to:

  • Access learning and participate in classroom activities
  • Develop confidence, communication and independence
  • Build positive relationships with staff and peers
  • Manage their emotions and behaviour
  • Overcome barriers to learning
  • Engage with specialist activities and facilities

Pupils may have a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, complex learning needs and medical needs.

Personal care will be required as part of the role, and you must be comfortable supporting pupils with their personal and physical needs.

The school is a specialist setting based in the heart of Keighley, providing education for children aged 2-11 with severe learning difficulties and profound and complex medical needs.

The school supports pupils with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
  • ADHD
  • Anxiety and trauma-related difficulties
  • Communication and Interaction needs
  • Cognition and Learning needs
  • Specific learning needs
  • Complex medical needs

The school has a child-centred, nurturing and inclusive ethos, creating a safe environment where every pupil is supported to build confidence, develop independence and reach their potential.

About You

We are looking for someone who is patient, compassionate, resilient and passionate about working with children with additional needs.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role
  • Experience supporting children with SEN and/or challenging behaviour
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence supporting pupils with personal care
  • A willingness to use specialist facilities, including the hydrotherapy pool
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Minimum Grade 4/C in GCSE English and Maths
