Contract: Temporary to Permanent, Term-Time Only
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £90-£95 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

NextGen Teachers is working in partnership with specialist SEN schools across Leeds to recruit Learning and Life Skills Support Assistants for the Towards Independence Pathway.

Learners on this pathway have EHCPs and are working at a level where they can engage with semi-formal, subject-based learning, make informed choices, and develop increasing independence. The curriculum combines academic learning, life skills, vocational experiences, and community participation, supporting learners to apply their skills in real-life contexts.

As a Learning and Life Skills Support Assistant, you will support structured teaching, including Maths for Life and life skills sessions, helping learners build confidence, communication, and practical independence both in and beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support learners with complex needs within a semi-formal learning environment

  • Implement EHCP targets to develop communication, independence, and life skills

  • Use strategies such as project-based learning, Lego Therapy, and visual supports

  • Support emotional development and co- and self-regulation using positive behaviour strategies

  • Provide sensory support where required, including sensory circuits

  • Work effectively within a high staff-to-learner ratio team

  • Contribute to offsite and community-based learning experiences

  • Provide personal care in line with individual care plans

Requirements

  • Experience working with learners with complex SEN needs

  • Experience providing personal care

  • Patient, empathetic, and confident supporting behaviour

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and record keeping

  • Team Teach trained (or willingness to complete training)

  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English, Maths, and Science
