SEN Teaching Assistant - SEN Secondary School in Leeds

Salary: £92.60 - £95 per day

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate SEN teaching assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Leeds.

This school offers a safe and supportive environment for pupils aged between 8 and 17 years old with Autism and/or social,emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). The young people may have a number of diagnoses including ASD, ADHD, FASD, anxiety and/or, communication and interaction, cognition and learning needs.

This is an excellent temp-to-perm opportunity for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting young people with special educational needs.

You will work as part of a dedicated and experienced team, helping pupils access learning, develop their confidence and independence, and achieve their individual goals.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the school with their educational, social, emotional and developmental needs.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
• Supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH and Down Syndrome
• Helping pupils engage positively with their learning
• Supporting behaviour and emotional regulation
• Developing positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Supporting communication, social skills and independence
• Helping pupils manage transitions and changes throughout the school day
• Following individual education and support plans
• Supporting classroom activities and practical learning
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other members of the school's support team
• Creating a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment

The school is looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
• Has experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH or similar additional needs
• Is patient, calm, compassionate and resilient
• Has strong communication and behaviour management skills
• Can build positive relationships with young people
• Is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour
• Is able to adapt their approach to meet individual needs
• Works well as part of a team
• Is reliable, professional and enthusiastic

Experience within a special school, secondary school, residential setting, youth work, care or similar environment would be highly desirable.
