Salary: £21,000 - £23,000

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for an experienced and compassionate SEMH teaching assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive SEMH school in Huddersfield.

This new school offers a safe and supportive environment for young people aged between 5 and 18 with Autism and/or social,emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). The young people may have a number of diagnoses including ASD, ADHD, FASD, anxiety and/or, communication and interaction, cognition and learning needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping students overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will work closely with students with complex needs and will provide consistent, nurturing and individualised support.

The Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant,

Your responsibilities will include:

• Working 121 with a pupil in KS3 with SEMH and ADHD
• Working with young people with complex communication needs.
• Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging students to reflect on their choices.
• Supporting restorative conversations and helping to repair relationships.
• Providing calm and consistent support to students experiencing emotional dysregulation.
• Helping students successfully reintegrate into learning following periods of difficulty.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with students and encouraging their confidence and independence.

About You:

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience working with young people in a school, education or support setting.
• Experience supporting children or young people with autism and/or additional needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
• The resilience to support students experiencing challenging emotions or behaviour.
• An understanding of restorative approaches and positive behaviour support.
• A genuine commitment to inclusion and helping every student achieve their potential.
