SEN Teaching Assistant - Supporting Children with PMLD

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and specialist school in Pontefract (WF7), supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).

This is an exciting temp-to-perm opportunity for a caring, patient and dedicated individual who is passionate about working with children with complex additional needs.

The successful candidate will become an important part of the school's dedicated SEN team, supporting pupils both within the classroom and across the wider school environment.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to pupils with PMLD and complex learning needs. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
  • Supporting children with PMLD and complex physical and learning needs
  • Assisting pupils with their learning, communication and development
  • Supporting sensory-based and therapeutic activities
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills
  • Supporting personal care and intimate care where required
  • Assisting with mobility and physical needs in line with school procedures
  • Following individual learning and support plans
  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals
  • Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD or complex medical and physical needs
  • Has experience within a school, specialist education, care or similar setting
  • Is patient, compassionate and understanding
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Is confident supporting personal care where required
  • Can build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Is reliable, professional and committed

Relevant qualifications or experience in SEN, childcare, education, health or social care would be advantageous.
