Primary Teaching Assistant - Pastoral & Behaviour Focus

Location: Leeds
Job Type: Full-Time (Term-Time Only)
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £90 - £100 per day (depending on experience)

NextGen Teachers are currently working with a school based in Leeds who are seeking a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant with a strong focus on pastoral care and behaviour support to join their nurturing and inclusive school community. This role is ideal for someone who understands the importance of emotional development as a foundation for learning and wants to work closely with children who may need additional behavioural or social support.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Supporting children across the school who may have emotional, behavioural, or social difficulties
  • Working 1:1 or with small groups to help develop self-regulation and positive behaviour
  • Building trusted relationships with pupils to help improve engagement and wellbeing
  • Supporting the class teacher with behaviour management strategies in the classroom
  • Liaising with pastoral staff, SENDCo, and external agencies where necessary
  • Monitoring pupil progress and maintaining accurate records

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working in a primary school or with children in an educational setting
  • Is calm, patient, and empathetic with a genuine interest in children's emotional development
  • Understands the challenges some children face and is committed to inclusive practice
  • Can remain resilient and adaptable in a dynamic school environment
  • Has excellent communication skills and works well as part of a team

Requirements:

  • Experience with SEMH or behaviour-focused roles
  • Knowledge of restorative approaches or emotional literacy strategies
  • Relevant qualifications in child development, mental health, or behaviour support
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to complete one
  • The right to work in the UK
  • Two professional references
