NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a highly supportive and well-established specialist school in Leeds for a full-time, permanent EYFS / KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young children with Special Educational Needs. The successful candidate will support pupils within the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, helping them to develop their communication, independence, and social skills in a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The Role

As an EYFS / KS1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs within EYFS and KS1.
  • Work closely with class teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning activities.
  • Support children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex communication needs.
  • Assist pupils who may be non-verbal by using visual communication strategies, PECS, Makaton, or other communication methods where appropriate.
  • Encourage children's social, emotional, and personal development.
  • Help create a safe, engaging, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, parents, and the wider school team.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, applicants MUST have:

  • Previous experience supporting EYFS-aged children within a school or specialist educational setting.
  • Proven SEN experience working with children with Autism (ASC) and complex communication needs.
  • Experience supporting children who may be non-verbal.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to supporting children's individual needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs to achieve their full potential.
