Behaviour Support Worker (SEMH) - Permanent

Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only

NextGen Teachers are recruiting a Behaviour Support Worker to join a supportive and inclusive school in Barnsley. This permanent role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and helping them thrive in a safe, structured environment.

You will work with a small, consistent group of pupils, providing stability, emotional support and positive behaviour guidance throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide daily behaviour and learning support to pupils with SEMH needs
* Support pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured times
* Use calm, effective de-escalation and regulation strategies
* Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
* Promote a safe, predictable and nurturing environment
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals

Essential Criteria

* Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
* Understanding of behaviour management and trauma-informed practice
* GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
* Level 3 qualification in a relevant field
* Full UK driving licence and access to a car
* Strong communication skills, resilience and a calm approach
