Contract: Temporary to permanent (term time only), Monday to Friday (8:30-3:30)
Start date: ASAP
Salary: Minimum £92.60 per day
NextGen Teachers are seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil within a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Huddersfield.
The school supports pupils with a range of needs including SEMH, autism, ADHD, and associated learning and behavioural challenges. The environment is structured, nurturing, and focused on helping pupils develop confidence, emotional resilience, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support for a Year 5 pupil with SEMH and additional SEN needs
- Build a strong, trusting relationship to support emotional regulation and engagement in learning
- Implement personalised strategies to manage behaviour and support the pupil's individual needs
- Adapt learning activities to ensure accessibility and encourage progress
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO, and wider support teams
- Support transitions throughout the school day and help maintain a structured routine
- Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour strategies in line with school policies
- Promote independence, self-esteem, and social development
Requirements
- Previous experience working with pupils with SEMH needs is essential
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Experience working in a SEMH school or similar setting is highly desirable
- Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Understanding of safeguarding and ability to maintain accurate records
- Team Teach training (or willingness to complete training)
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE English, Maths, and Science
