Teaching Assistant / Pastoral Support Worker (SEMH / SEN) - Secondary
Location: Crawley
Salary: £23,500 - £25,000 (term time only)
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Pastoral Support Worker looking for a more therapeutic, relationship-focused role?
We are recruiting for a Teaching Assistant / Pastoral Key Worker to join a unique secondary setting in Crawley. This role is based within a specialist, trauma-informed provision supporting young people with SEMH, SEN, Autism (ASC), and Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA).
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting students who need additional emotional and pastoral support to re-engage with education. Working closely with the SENCo and wider team, you will build strong, trusting relationships and help pupils develop confidence, regulation, and independence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group pastoral support
- Supporting students with SEMH, SEN, Autism, and EBSA
- Helping pupils re-engage with learning at their own pace
- Supporting emotional regulation, wellbeing, and behaviour
- Working closely with staff, parents, and external professionals
- Contributing to EHCPs and individual support plans
- Monitoring student progress, attendance, and engagement
- Supporting transitions back into learning or classroom settings
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced supporting secondary-aged pupils with SEN / SEMH / EBSA
- From a background in education, pastoral support, or alternative provision
- Calm, empathetic, and able to build strong relationships
- Confident supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour
- A strong communicator who works well within a team
- Committed to a student-centred, non-punitive approach
