This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring SEN Teaching Assistants, Psychology graduates, and individuals from care or support work backgrounds to gain hands-on experience in a specialist SEN school. Full training is provided, making this role ideal for those looking to build a long-term career in education or SEND support.

The Role

As a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism (ASD/ASC), PMLD, SLD, and complex learning difficulties.

You will work closely with experienced staff to support pupils both in the classroom and through structured activities, helping them to develop communication, independence, and life skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN / SEND
  • Supporting learning, communication, and behaviour development
  • Assisting pupils with Autism (ASD), PMLD, SLD, and complex needs
  • Encouraging social skills, independence, and engagement
  • Supporting sensory activities and structured learning tasks
  • Providing personal care and physical support where required

The Ideal Candidate:

This role is ideal for candidates looking to gain experience in SEN education or progress into careers such as Educational Psychology or Sociology.

  • Interested in SEN, SEND, Autism (ASD), SEMH, or mental health support
  • A graduate (Psychology or related field) or experienced in care, support work, or youth work
  • Patient, resilient, and nurturing in your approach
  • Proactive, reliable, and able to work as part of a team
  • Keen to learn and develop through training and CPD
  • A driver with access to a vehicle (essential)
