Teaching Assistant - SEN Specialist
SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Leeds
Contract: Temporary to Permanent, Term-Time Only
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: £90-£95 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Role
NextGen Teachers is working with a Specialist SEN school in Leeds to recruit Teaching Assistants to support children and young people aged 2-19 with complex communication and sensory needs. Learners follow individual EHCP targets within a structured, routine-based setting that supports communication, engagement, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Support learners with complex needs, including PMLD and non-verbal learners
- Deliver communication-focused support in line with EHCP targets
- Use communication aids such as Makaton, symbols, and objects of reference
- Provide sensory support, including sensory circuits
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Work as part of a high staff-to-learner ratio team
- Provide personal care where required
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with complex SEN needs
- Experience providing personal care
- Patient, empathetic, and confident supporting behaviour
- Understanding of safeguarding and record-keeping
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English, Maths, and Science
