Are you looking for a rewarding Teaching Assistant role where you can genuinely make a difference to young people with additional needs?

We are recruiting Teaching Assistants to join a well-established specialist school in West Sussex, supporting students with social, emotional, behavioural, and communication needs across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants, Support Workers, Care Workers, Psychology graduates, or individuals with SEN experience looking to build a long-term career within specialist education.

Both temporary-to-permanent and permanent opportunities are available.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally within small class settings (typically 5-6 students per class).

The school provides a highly supportive environment focused on positive relationships, behaviour support, and personalised learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students in lessons across a range of subjects
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support when required
  • Assisting pupils with SEN / SEND, SEMH, and communication difficulties
  • Supporting behaviour management and emotional regulation
  • Helping students build confidence, engagement, and independence
  • Supporting classroom organisation and learning resources
  • Building positive and consistent relationships with pupils

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for candidates who are:

  • Experienced working with children or young people with additional needs
  • From a Teaching Assistant, care, support work, youth work, or pastoral background
  • Psychology graduates or graduates interested in SEN / education careers
  • Calm, patient, and resilient in their approach
  • Confident managing behaviour and supporting emotional wellbeing
  • Strong communicators who work well within a team
  • Drivers (preferred due to school location)

A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable, but not essential.

What's on Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications
  • Small class sizes and personalised support environment
  • Temp-to-perm and direct permanent opportunities available
  • Funded Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification pathway
  • Supportive leadership and experienced staff team
  • Strong focus on staff wellbeing and work-life balance
  • Free school meals
  • Pension and healthcare-related benefits
  • Ongoing CPD and career progression opportunities
