Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm

NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting SEN Assistants for a welcoming and highly respected SEN school in Wakefield. This specialist setting supports children and young people aged 4-19 with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex medical needs, sensory needs and severe learning difficulties.

This school are looking for candidates who are available ASAP and who has experience working with children with Special Educational Needs in a professional capacity.

Your Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with PMLD

  • Assist with personal care, feeding, changing and mobility (full training provided)

  • Support pupils with complex medical conditions under guidance from medical staff

  • Facilitate sensory-based, therapeutic and communication-focused activities

  • Use switches, eye-gaze and other assistive technologies to support engagement

  • Promote pupils' independence, emotional well-being and communication

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and healthcare professionals

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Compassionate, patient and committed to supporting learners with high needs

  • Calm, nurturing and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Comfortable supporting pupils with limited mobility or non-verbal communication

  • Experienced in care, SEN, or PMLD settings (preferred but not essential)

Essential:

  • Genuine passion for supporting children with complex SEND

  • Willingness to assist with personal care and physical support

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN
