Overview:
NextGen Teachers are recruiting for a passionate and experienced Specialist Teaching Assistant / Group Guide to join a welcoming SEMH school in Barnsley. This permanent role is ideal for someone dedicated to supporting children and young people with complex social, emotional, and behavioural needs - helping them build confidence, develop emotional resilience, and achieve their full potential.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide focused 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH and complex needs

  • Plan and facilitate smooth transitions between lessons and daily activities

  • Build consistent, trusting relationships to help students regulate emotions and engage positively

  • Model calm, supportive behaviour and reinforce clear, respectful boundaries

  • Collaborate with teaching staff to deliver tailored learning and support plans

  • Create a safe, structured environment where every child feels valued and understood

Essential Criteria:

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or complex behavioural needs

  • Strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Calm, confident, and adaptable in challenging situations

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English
