About the Role

Are you a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can make a genuine difference to the lives of primary-aged children?

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Leeds.

The school provides a nurturing, inclusive and highly supportive learning environment for children with a range of Special Educational Needs and complex additional needs.

We are looking for a patient, caring and resilient individual who is confident supporting pupils with SEN, particularly those with autism, communication needs and complex learning requirements.

The Role

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils' learning, development and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual pupils' needs.
• Supporting children with a range of SEN and complex additional needs.
• Assisting with personalised learning activities and interventions.
• Supporting pupils with their communication, interaction and social development.
• Working closely with the class teacher and wider SEN team to provide consistent support.
• Supporting children with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
• Using appropriate strategies to encourage engagement and participation.
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Encouraging children to develop confidence, independence and life skills.
• Supporting with personal care where required.
• Being confident and willing to participate in activities involving the school's hydrotherapy pool, where required.
• Contributing to a safe, inclusive and positive classroom environment.

The role is available from ASAP and will initially be offered on a temporary basis, with the potential to become a long-term or permanent position for the right candidate.

About You

• Confident supporting primary-aged children with additional needs.
• Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
• Experienced in supporting positive behaviour.
• Comfortable working with pupils with autism and communication needs.
• Flexible and willing to support with personal care where required.
• Comfortable participating in hydrotherapy activities as part of pupils' learning and development.
• Passionate about helping children achieve their potential.
• A strong team player who can work effectively alongside teachers and specialist professionals.
• Reliable, proactive and willing to learn.

Requirements

• Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, Teaching Assistant or 1:1 Teaching Assistant is highly beneficial.
• Experience within a primary or specialist education setting is desirable.
• Minimum Grade 4/C in GCSE English and Maths.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
