Mental Health Support Assistant

Location: Huddersfield
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only, Temporary to Permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Start Date: September
Salary: £92.60 - £95 a day

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with their mental health, emotional wellbeing and behaviour?

We're working with a specialist SEMH schools in Huddersfield with children ages 5-18 who are looking for caring, resilient and enthusiastic Mental Health Support Assistants to join their teams.

You'll work closely with pupils who may experience social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them manage emotions, develop positive relationships and engage with their learning in a safe and supportive environment.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience in education, mental health, care, youth work or support settings who wants to make a genuine difference to young people.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH and emotional wellbeing needs.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with children and young people.
• Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and self-esteem.
• Help pupils manage challenging situations and develop positive coping strategies.
• Encourage positive behaviour and support pupils to engage with their learning.
• Provide a calm, consistent and supportive presence throughout the school day.
• Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to provide consistent support.
