Primary Behaviour Mentor - KS2
Location: Leeds
Salary: £21,000 - £23,000 per annum
Contract: Full-Time / September start
NextGen Teachers are recruiting for a Primary Behaviour Mentor to join a welcoming primary school in Leeds.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about mentoring and supporting children with behavioural and special educational needs (SEN). The successful candidate will work predominantly with pupils across Key Stage 2, providing targeted support to help them manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and engage positively with school life.
This is very much a mentor-focused position, suited to someone who can build strong, trusting relationships with children who may find the classroom environment challenging.
The Role
As a Primary Behaviour Support Worker, you will work closely with individual pupils and small groups across KS2 who require additional behavioural, emotional or SEN support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring to KS2 pupils
- Supporting children with behavioural, social, emotional and SEN needs
- Building positive and consistent relationships with pupils
- Helping children develop strategies to regulate their emotions and behaviour
- Supporting pupils who may struggle to engage with learning or the wider school environment
- Using positive behaviour strategies to encourage engagement and progress
- Acting as a positive role model and trusted adult within school
- Supporting pupils during challenging situations and helping to de-escalate behaviour
- Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams
- Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships
Who Are We Looking For?
NextGen Teachers would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience in behaviour support, mentoring, youth work, SEN, pastoral support or working with vulnerable children and young people.
You may have previously worked as a:
- Behaviour Support Worker
- Learning Mentor
- Youth Worker
- SEN Teaching Assistant
- Pastoral Support Worker
- Sports Coach
- Inclusion Support Worker
- Residential Support Worker
The most important qualities are the ability to remain calm, patient and consistent, while building genuine relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
