About the Role:
NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a caring and committed 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 pupil with Down Syndrome at a welcoming mainstream primary school in the HX3 area of Halifax. This is a supply-based role with ongoing work available, offering the chance to build a consistent and supportive relationship with the child while gaining valuable experience in a mainstream setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil with Down Syndrome, tailored to their individual learning and developmental needs
  • Support the child's communication, social interaction, and engagement in classroom activities
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised learning strategies and EHCP targets
  • Adapt resources and activities to ensure accessibility and inclusion
  • Support with routines, transitions, and emotional regulation where required
  • Promote independence, confidence, and a positive learning experience
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with additional needs, particularly Down Syndrome or similar learning needs
  • Understanding of early learning development and KS1 curriculum
  • A nurturing, patient, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE, NVQ, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential
  • The right to work in the UK
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one)
  • The ability to provide 24 months of professional references
