About the Role

NextGen Teachers are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded, forward-thinking primary academy in Wakefield for a full-time Primary Teaching Assistant to start in March 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and dynamic Key Stage 1 team, working as a general classroom Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning, with a particular focus on phonics delivery and targeted intervention support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support across Key Stage 1

  • Support the delivery of structured phonics sessions

  • Deliver small-group and 1:1 interventions in literacy and early reading

  • Assist with planning and preparation of learning activities

  • Support pupils with varying learning needs to ensure progress and engagement

  • Promote positive behaviour and contribute to a nurturing classroom environment

  • Work collaboratively with class teachers and the wider school team

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working within a Primary School setting (preferably Key Stage 1)

  • A strong understanding of phonics schemes and early reading development

  • Experience delivering small-group interventions

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A proactive and adaptable approach

  • A passion for supporting young learners to achieve their full potential

  • A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
