Teaching Assistant
1:1 Learning Support Assistant - Primary & SEMH Experience
Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Pay: £120 per day
Contract: Part-Time, Temp to Perm
Days: 3 days per week - Monday, Wednesday and Friday
Hours: 8:15am - 5:15pm (30-minute lunch break)
Start Date: Immediately
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or SEMH Support Worker with experience supporting teenagers?
We are recruiting for a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a primary-aged pupil within a school in Crawley.
The pupil benefits from a calm, nurturing and consistent approach to learning and requires dedicated 1:1 support with their emotional wellbeing, engagement and confidence in school.
Previous experience supporting teenagers and/or young people with SEMH needs is essential for this role, as the successful candidate will need strong experience managing anxiety, emotional regulation and challenging situations.
The Role
You will provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day, working closely with teachers, SEN staff and pastoral teams.
The role is ideal for someone who is patient, emotionally resilient and confident building positive relationships with children and young people. You will support the pupil to engage with learning, manage emotions and develop their confidence and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a primary-aged pupil
- Supporting emotional regulation, anxiety and engagement with learning
- Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
- Supporting classroom learning and individual activities
- Using appropriate strategies to manage SEMH and behavioural needs
- Encouraging confidence, independence and positive social interaction
- Working closely with teaching, SEN and pastoral staff
- Supporting transitions throughout the school day
- Monitoring engagement, wellbeing and progress
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEMH Support Worker, Behaviour Support Worker or similar
- Has essential experience supporting teenagers and/or young people with SEMH needs
- Has experience supporting children with anxiety, emotional regulation or behavioural needs
- Can build strong, positive relationships with children and young people
- Is calm, patient, consistent and emotionally resilient
- Understands the importance of boundaries, structure and routine
- Can adapt their approach to meet individual needs
- Works well as part of a wider school and pastoral team
