PMLD Teaching Assistant - SEN & Complex Needs
Location: East Grinstead, West Sussex
Pay: £90-£120 per day, depending on experience
Contract: Full-Time, Term Time Only, 12 Weeks Temp-to-Perm
Start Date: September 2026

NextGen Teachers are recruiting PMLD Teaching Assistants to join a specialist school in East Grinstead from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Autism and complex physical or medical needs, helping them develop communication, independence and confidence.
The role offers a genuine temp-to-permanent pathway, providing the opportunity to secure a long-term position within a supportive specialist setting.
About the Role
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you'll provide personalised support to pupils with complex learning and additional needs.
Working alongside teachers, therapists and specialist staff, you'll help pupils access learning, communicate their needs and develop important life skills.
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support
Supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD and complex additional needs
Supporting communication and sensory-based learning
Helping pupils engage with classroom and practical activities
Supporting personal care where required
Encouraging independence, confidence and wellbeing
Supporting pupils with physical or complex needs
Following individual support and learning plans
Working closely with teachers, therapists and wider school staff
Who We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from candidates with experience as a:
SEN Teaching Assistant, SEND Teaching Assistant, PMLD Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant Support Worker, Complex Needs Support Worker, Care Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Children's Support Worker, Youth Worker
Experience supporting PMLD, SLD, Autism, physical disabilities or complex needs is highly desirable.
However, you don't need to have worked in a specialist school previously. Candidates from care, healthcare, residential support or other relevant support settings are encouraged to apply.
