SEND Teaching Assistant (College Provision) - Haywards Heath
Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex (Specialist College Provision)
Pay: £14.86 per day
Hours: Wednesday to Friday, 8:45 - 4:00pm (2pm finish on Fridays)
Contract: Temporary Assignment
Start Date: 22nd June 2026
End Date: End of Summer Term 2026

NextGen Teachers are working with a specialist college provision in Haywards Heath to recruit a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support students with Autism (ASC), learning difficulties, communication needs, and associated SEND requirements.
This is a fantastic short-term opportunity to gain valuable experience within a specialist post-16 environment, supporting students as they develop independence, confidence, and key life skills.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and support staff to help students engage with learning, develop social and communication skills, and achieve their individual goals.
The role will involve supporting students both within the classroom and during practical, life skills, and enrichment activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 and small group support for students with SEND
- Supporting young people with Autism (ASC), communication needs, and learning difficulties
- Assisting students to access learning and participate in activities
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and social development
- Supporting emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies
- Helping deliver life skills and employability-focused activities
- Building positive and supportive relationships with students
- Working closely with teaching staff and therapists to meet individual needs
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for candidates who are:
- Experienced working with young people or adults with additional needs
- From an education, care, support work, youth work, or healthcare background
- Passionate about SEND, Autism, and inclusive education
- Calm, patient, and adaptable in their approach
- Confident supporting communication and emotional needs
- Reliable and able to commit until the end of the academic year
