Post-16 Learning Support Assistant (LSA) - KS5
Location: Horsham, West Sussex
Salary: £27,122 per annum (paid 52 weeks)
Contract: Full-Time, 12-week Temp-to-Perm
Start Date: September 2026

We are recruiting a Post-16 Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Horsham, working with Key Stage 5 students within a supportive and highly personalised learning environment. This is a rewarding opportunity to help young adults develop the confidence, independence, and practical life skills needed for success beyond education.
The school places a strong emphasis on life skills, employability, emotional wellbeing, and preparation for adulthood, supporting students to achieve positive long-term outcomes.
The Role
As a Post-16 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to support students both academically and personally. You will help learners develop independence, communication skills, emotional resilience, and confidence through a combination of classroom-based learning and practical life skills activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Assisting with PSHE, life skills, employability, and independence programmes
- Supporting emotional wellbeing, behaviour regulation, and social development
- Encouraging confidence, communication, and positive peer relationships
- Helping students develop practical life skills and daily living routines
- Supporting students during lessons, enrichment activities, and community-based learning opportunities
- Promoting independence and preparing students for future education, employment, or supported living
- Building positive, consistent, and professional relationships with young people
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support teams
- Following safeguarding procedures and participating in ongoing training and development
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Support Worker, Care Worker, Youth Worker, or similar
- Has experience supporting young people with SEN, SEND, Autism (ASC), SEMH, or additional learning needs
- Is patient, resilient, and nurturing in their approach
- Can build strong relationships and act as a positive role model
- Is confident supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour
- Has a genuine passion for helping young people achieve greater independence
- Is interested in developing a long-term career within specialist education or SEND
