SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £92.60 minimum per day
We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEND school in Wakefield that supports children and young people with a range of complex learning needs, including Autism, communication and interaction difficulties, sensory needs, and associated learning challenges.
This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive team committed to helping every pupil achieve their full potential. The Role
- Support pupils with a range of SEND needs within the classroom on both a 1:1 and small group basis
- Work closely with the class teacher to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activities
- Adapt resources and learning approaches to meet individual pupil needs
- Promote pupils' communication, independence, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
- Support positive behaviour and help create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
- Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teaching staff where appropriate
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families, and external professionals to support the best outcomes for pupils
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and its nurturing, inclusive ethos
About You
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, ideally within a school or specialist setting
- A strong understanding of Autism and additional learning needs is desirable
- Patient, caring, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable but not essential with suitable experience
