Are you a passionate Science Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to pupils with Special Educational Needs aged 7 - 16.
NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Science Teacher to join a specialist school in Leeds on a full-time basis until Christmas.
This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about making Science accessible, engaging and meaningful for pupils with additional needs. You will work as part of a supportive team, adapting lessons to suit individual learning needs and helping pupils develop both academically and personally.
The Role
As an SEN Science Teacher, you will:
- Plan and deliver engaging Science lessons tailored to the individual needs and abilities of pupils.
- Adapt the curriculum and learning activities to ensure lessons are accessible and engaging.
- Support pupils with a range of SEND needs, including autism, learning difficulties and SEMH needs.
- Create a calm, inclusive and positive classroom environment.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage positive attitudes towards learning.
- Use a range of teaching strategies, practical activities and resources to engage learners.
- Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching where required.
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants and the wider SEN team to provide consistent support.
- Follow individualised learning plans and contribute towards pupils' EHCP outcomes.
- Promote pupils' confidence, independence and engagement in learning.
- Manage behaviour positively and consistently, following individual behaviour and support strategies.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and pupil welfare.
About You
We are looking for a teacher who is:
- Passionate about Science and committed to inclusive education.
- Confident teaching pupils with a range of SEND and additional needs.
- Patient, approachable and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Creative and adaptable in your approach to teaching.
- Confident managing behaviour using positive and consistent strategies.
- Able to differentiate lessons effectively to meet individual needs.
- A strong communicator and team player.
- Organised, reliable and professional.
- Passionate about helping every pupil achieve their potential.
Requirements
- QTS or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
- Science teaching experience, ideally within a secondary or specialist setting.
- Experience working with SEND pupils is highly desirable.
- A good understanding of differentiation and adapting learning to individual needs.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- Two suitable references covering your recent teaching experience.
- A genuine commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare.
