Salary: MPS/UPS plus SEN Allowance (dependent on experience and qualifications)
About the Role
NextGen Teachers are seeking an experienced, dedicated and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join one of our friendly and supportive primary schools in Wakefield from September 2026. This temporary position is to provide cover for a long-term sickness absence and offers flexibility regarding working days. This role is expected to be for 1-3 Terms depending on the current member of staff.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and developing inclusive practice across the school, ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive high-quality support and achieve their full potential.
This is a two form entry Primary school with an above average SEN cohort of 38% of pupils on the SEN register with 20 pupils who have EHCPs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage SEND provision across the school.
- Coordinate and monitor support for pupils with SEND.
- Work closely with staff, parents, external agencies and the senior leadership team.
- Ensure statutory responsibilities relating to SEND are met.
- Support teachers in identifying and meeting the needs of pupils with SEND.
- Maintain accurate records and oversee Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes.
- Promote an inclusive culture that enables all pupils to thrive.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Hold the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or equivalent statutory SENCo qualification.
- Have successful experience of working with pupils with SEND in a primary school setting.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
- Possess strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
- Be committed to raising achievement and improving outcomes for all learners.
- Work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
