Learning Support Assistant

Location: Leeds
Contract: Full-time and permanent (Term Time)

NextGen Teachers are working with an inclusive and supportive specialist school, based in Leeds, to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and senior staff to support pupils' learning, wellbeing and development. You will help deliver an engaging and suitably challenging curriculum while ensuring pupils feel safe, supported and able to access learning.

You will provide both academic and pastoral support, assisting with behaviour management, personal care, health and therapeutic interventions where required. Formal training will be provided in areas such as safeguarding, moving and handling, medical procedures, Team Teach and de-escalation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEND to access learning and achieve their full potential
  • Work under the direction of teachers and senior leaders to deliver tailored learning activities
  • Assist with the implementation of EHCPs, Behaviour Plans and Care Plans
  • Monitor, record and report pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Support pupils' physical, emotional and social development
  • Promote positive behaviour and respond appropriately to challenging situations
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, mobility and health-related needs where required
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, trips and transport where required
  • Use ICT to support learning and assessment
  • Liaise with parents, carers and external professionals as directed

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEND (desirable but not essential)
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
  • Willingness to undertake training and follow school policies and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
