We are recruiting a Post-16 Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in Horsham, supporting students in Key Stage 5. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young adults as they develop life skills, social confidence, emotional resilience, and readiness for future education, employment, and independent living.
The school provides a supportive and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to achieve their individual goals while preparing for life beyond the classroom.
The Role
As a Post-16 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and wider support teams to help students engage in learning, develop independence, and build the practical skills needed for adulthood.
The role will include supporting students through PSHE, life skills, employ-ability activities, and personalised learning programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Assisting with PSHE, life skills, employ-ability, and independence-focused learning
- Supporting emotional well being, behaviour regulation, and social development
- Encouraging communication, confidence, and positive relationships
- Helping students develop practical life skills and daily living routines
- Supporting students both within lessons and during wider school activities
- Building positive, professional, and consistent relationships with young people
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams
- Following safeguarding procedures and contributing to ongoing training and development
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Support Worker, Care Worker, or similar
- Has experience supporting young people with SEN, SEND, SEMH, Autism, or additional needs
- Is patient, resilient, and nurturing in their approach
- Can build positive relationships and act as a role model for students
- Is confident supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour
- Has a genuine passion for helping young people achieve positive outcomes
- Is interested in developing a long-term career within SEN or specialist education
