Behaviour Support Worker - Help Pupils Overcome Barriers to Learning
Are you a patient, resilient and compassionate individual who is passionate about helping children manage their behaviour and reach their full potential?
NextGen Teachers is recruiting a Behaviour Support Worker to work within school settings across Leeds, supporting pupils who may experience behavioural difficulties, emotional regulation challenges or social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can build positive relationships with children, provide consistent support and help create a safe and structured learning environment.
Whether you have previous experience in behaviour support, SEN, youth work, care or mentoring, this role offers the opportunity to develop your skills within education and make a meaningful difference to pupils' lives.
With a full-time, temporary-to-permanent contract, this opportunity offers the potential to progress into a permanent position within a school.
The Role
As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will work closely with pupils and school staff to promote positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing and engagement in learning.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing individual and small-group support to pupils experiencing behavioural difficulties.
Supporting children with SEMH needs, ADHD, autism and other additional needs.
Implementing agreed behaviour management strategies and maintaining consistent boundaries.
Helping pupils recognise and regulate their emotions, manage frustration and develop coping strategies.
Responding calmly and professionally to challenging situations.
Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
Encouraging positive choices, independence and constructive interactions with peers.
Supporting pupils to re-engage with classroom activities and learning.
Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to provide consistent support.
Helping maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is calm under pressure, confident in setting boundaries and committed to helping children develop positive behaviours.
Ideally, you will have:
Experience supporting children or young people with behavioural, emotional or additional needs.
Experience in SEN, SEMH, youth work, mentoring, care, coaching or similar support roles.
A patient, resilient and consistent approach to behaviour management.
The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Confidence encouraging positive behaviour while maintaining clear expectations.
A proactive approach to supporting emotional regulation and pupil engagement.
A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
The right to work in the UK and willingness to complete the relevant safeguarding checks.
Relevant experience is highly valued, but we also welcome applications from individuals with transferable skills who are keen to develop a career supporting children and young people.
What's on Offer?
Competitive daily pay: £92.63 per day.
Full-time hours: Consistent work within a school setting.
Temporary-to-permanent opportunity: Potential to secure a permanent position.
Valuable experience: Develop your skills in behaviour support, SEN and SEMH.
