Graduate Teaching Assistant - Start Your Career in Education

Are you a recent graduate looking to build a career in education? Do you have a passion for helping children learn, develop and reach their full potential?

NextGen Teachers is recruiting enthusiastic and motivated Graduate Teaching Assistants to work across mainstream primary schools in Leeds.

These opportunities are ideal for graduates considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, SEN or child development. You'll gain valuable classroom experience while working alongside experienced teachers and supporting pupils with a range of learning needs.

Whether you're interested in mainstream primary education or supporting children with additional needs, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and make a meaningful difference to children's education.

With full-time hours and the potential to secure a permanent position, you can build your experience while working towards a long-term career in education.

The Role

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with their learning and development.

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to help children engage with classroom activities.

  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation, learning resources and classroom activities.

  • Helping pupils develop their literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence.

  • Creating a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

  • Building supportive relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers and SENCOs to support individual learning goals.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for caring, proactive and enthusiastic graduates who are keen to gain practical experience in a primary school setting.

You will ideally have:

  • A degree in Education, Psychology, Childhood Studies, Sociology or a related subject, although graduates from other disciplines are welcome to apply.

  • A genuine interest in primary education and children's development.

  • Strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.

  • A patient, adaptable and positive approach.

  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team.

  • An interest in supporting children with SEND and diverse learning needs.

  • A willingness to learn from experienced teachers and develop your classroom skills.

  • The right to work in the UK and willingness to complete the relevant safeguarding checks.

Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential. We encourage applications from graduates with transferable experience in childcare, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, coaching or volunteering with children.

Why Work with NextGen Teachers?

  • Temporary-to-permanent pathway: The opportunity to secure a permanent position.
