NextGen Teachers are excited to be recruiting a KS1 Teaching Assistant for a welcoming and supportive primary school in Wakefield.

About the Role

As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and wider KS1 team to support teaching and learning across Year 1 and/or Year 2.

Your role will include:

  • Providing full-class support during lessons to ensure all pupils remain engaged and on task

  • Delivering targeted phonics interventions (including small group work) to support early reading development

  • Supporting pupils with literacy and numeracy interventions to help close learning gaps

  • Providing 1:1 support for pupils who require additional academic or pastoral support

  • Assisting with planning and preparation of engaging classroom activities

  • Supporting assessment and tracking of pupil progress

  • Helping to maintain a positive, well-managed, and inclusive classroom environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience working within a KS1 setting

  • Experience delivering or supporting phonics programmes (e.g. Read Write Inc, Little Wandle, or similar)

  • Knowledge and understanding of a variety of SEN needs

  • Confidence supporting both small groups and 1:1 interventions

  • Strong communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills

  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities

  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

  • Minimum GCSE grade C/4 in English, Maths, and Science

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential)
