About the Role

NextGen Teachers are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in Leeds, who are looking for an experienced Behaviour Mentor to join their dedicated team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with proven school-based experience and a strong background in supporting children with challenging behaviour.

You will support pupils across the primary age range who require additional support with their social, emotional and behavioural development, working both within mainstream classrooms and the school's onsite inclusion provision.

The successful candidate will be confident managing challenging behaviour, establishing clear boundaries and using positive behaviour strategies to help pupils regulate their emotions, engage with learning and build positive relationships.

The school has a strong focus on inclusion and early intervention, alongside a supportive leadership team and opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2 with social, emotional and behavioural needs.

• Provide consistent support to pupils who display challenging behaviour, including emotional dysregulation, conflict, refusal, aggression or difficulties engaging with learning.

• Work across mainstream classrooms and the school's onsite inclusion provision, depending on individual pupil needs.

• Build positive and trusting relationships while maintaining clear, consistent boundaries and high expectations.

• Use effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies to support pupils in regulating their emotions and behaviour.

• Deliver targeted one-to-one and small-group interventions focused on behaviour, wellbeing, emotional development and engagement.

• Work closely with teachers, SEND staff, pastoral teams and senior leaders to implement individual behaviour support strategies.

• Encourage positive behaviour, resilience, confidence, independence and improved engagement with learning.

• Monitor and record pupil behaviour, progress and interventions accurately.

• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment for all pupils.

Essential Requirements

Please note: school-based experience is essential for this role.

We are specifically looking for candidates who:

• Have previous experience working within a school setting.

• Have proven experience supporting children with challenging behaviour.

• Are confident managing and responding to challenging behaviour in a calm, consistent and professional manner.

• Have experience supporting pupils with additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, SEMH or other behavioural needs.

• Understand and can apply positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

• Can build strong relationships with pupils while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and high expectations.

• Are calm, patient, resilient and able to remain composed in challenging situations.

• Have a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

• Have a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

• Hold GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.

• Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one.
