We are recruiting a Vocational Tutor / Instructor to join a specialist SEMH school in Horley, supporting teenage boys who require a practical, relationship-led approach to education.
This is a fantastic opportunity for both qualified teachers and unqualified instructors/tutors who have the ability to engage young people, build positive relationships, and develop the life skills needed for success beyond school.
The school follows the Kings Trust Curriculum, placing a strong emphasis on personal development, employability, independence, resilience, and preparing students for adulthood alongside academic learning.
Due to the school's location, a driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly desirable, as public transport access can be challenging.
The Role
As a Vocational Tutor, you will deliver engaging practical and life-skills-based learning to small groups of students aged 11-16. The focus is less on traditional classroom teaching and more on helping young people develop confidence, aspirations, employability skills, and positive attitudes towards learning.
You will work closely with pastoral staff, teachers, and therapists to support students who may have experienced barriers to education, helping them re-engage and achieve positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver vocational, practical, and life-skills-based learning activities
- Support students to develop employability, communication, and independence skills
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people
- Act as a mentor and positive role model
- Support students with SEMH, behavioural, and additional learning needs
- Encourage engagement, confidence, resilience, and personal growth
- Contribute to personalised learning plans and EHCP outcomes
- Work collaboratively with teaching, pastoral, and therapy teams
- Create a safe, structured, and motivating learning environment
