Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 3:30pm

Salary: £21,000 - £23,000 (depending on experience)

NextGen Teachers are looking for a caring and motivated Teaching Assistant (Secondary) to join a supportive and nurturing education setting in Leeds. You'll work closely with small groups or individual learners, helping to support classroom teaching, monitor and report on pupil progress, and contribute to positive learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate will have experience working with young people, good communication skills, and a commitment to fostering engagement and achievement. You'll play a key part in building strong relationships, helping students to thrive in a safe and inclusive environment, with opportunities to grow professionally while making a meaningful difference to the lives of learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support teachers in the delivery of lessons and classroom activities for secondary-aged pupils
  • Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning and help pupils achieve their potential
  • Assist with planning and preparing learning materials under the guidance of teaching staff
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress, including academic performance, behavior, and wellbeing
  • Support pupils with additional needs, including social, emotional, or educational challenges
  • Encourage positive behavior and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
  • Build strong relationships with pupils to promote engagement, confidence, and independence
  • Participate in school activities, including extracurricular support where needed
  • Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to meet the needs of all learners
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the welfare of children and young people

What we're looking for:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged pupils, preferably in a special or SEN setting
  • Strong communication skills, both with pupils and colleagues
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students
  • Ability to support learning in small groups or one-to-one situations
  • Confidence in assisting with lesson delivery and adapting activities to meet individual needs
  • A proactive, flexible, and reliable approach to work
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Enthusiasm for helping students develop academically, socially, and emotionally
  • Team player mindset, willing to collaborate with teaching staff and other professionals
  • Willingness to participate in extracurricular or enrichment activities to support student development
