SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Leeds
Contract: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
Start Date: ASAP or September 2026
Pay: From £92.60 per day

NextGen Teachers are working in partnership with a welcoming and well-resourced all-through SEN school in Leeds, supporting pupils from primary through to secondary age. The school is looking to appoint caring, resilient, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistants to join their team, with opportunities available for both immediate starts and September 2026 starts.
The school is actively trialling candidates and is keen to meet suitable applicants as soon as possible.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, PMLD, complex learning difficulties, communication needs, and medical needs. You will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to help pupils access learning, develop independence, build confidence, and achieve their individual goals.
Key Responsibilities
Support pupils with a range of complex SEND needs across the school
Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group support to help pupils engage with learning
Adapt activities and resources to meet individual learning needs
Promote communication, independence, and emotional wellbeing
Support pupils with personal care and medical needs where required
Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and wider support staff to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND
A genuine passion for working with pupils with additional needs
A patient, caring, and resilient approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science
Desirable
Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
Team Teach training
Experience within a specialist school or SEND setting
Experience supporting pupils with Autism, PMLD, or complex needs
