Temp to Perm Salary: £19,500 - £21,000 per annum, depending on experience

Are you a patient, caring and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with experience working with children and young people with SEND?

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in Leeds, supporting pupils aged 8-17 with a range of additional needs.

The school provides a supportive and nurturing learning environment for pupils with needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), communication and language difficulties, and associated Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

With a strong team of experienced staff, specialist resources and effective strategies in place, the school is committed to helping every pupil feel safe, included and able to achieve their potential.

The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils aged 8-17 with their learning, engagement, confidence and development.
  • Provide individual and small-group support based on pupils' individual needs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEN team to deliver consistent and effective support.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage their independence and confidence.
  • Create a calm, positive and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and ready to learn.

The role will initially be offered on a supply basis, with the opportunity to progress into a Temp to Perm position for the right candidate.

If successful in progressing to the permanent position, the salary will be £19,500 - £21,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Patient, calm and compassionate, with a genuine passion for working with young people.
  • Experienced working with children or young people with additional needs.
  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils.
  • Comfortable supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour.
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of a team.
  • Reliable, adaptable and willing to learn.
  • Committed to creating an inclusive environment where every pupil is valued.
  • Passionate about helping young people develop their confidence, independence and life skills.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, SEMH or communication needs is desirable but not essential.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • School, care, youth work or support work experience is highly desirable.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A genuine commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare.
  • References covering your recent experience.
