Are you an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding opportunity where you can have a genuine impact on the lives of children and young people with complex needs?

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and specialist school in Leeds (LS8).

The school provides a supportive, nurturing and highly personalised learning environment for pupils with a range of complex additional, physical and medical needs. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping pupils feel safe, valued and confident while supporting their learning, communication and development.

The Role

As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils, teachers and the wider specialist team to provide high-quality, individualised support.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individualised support based on each pupil's needs, abilities and EHCP outcomes.
  • Supporting pupils with PMLD and a range of complex additional, physical and medical needs.
  • Helping deliver engaging and personalised learning activities.
  • Supporting pupils with their communication, sensory development, independence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Providing personal care where required.
  • Supporting pupils during activities such as hydrotherapy, where appropriate.

The role will start ASAP on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to become long-term or permanent for the right candidate.

About You

We are looking for a patient, resilient and compassionate individual who genuinely enjoys working with children and young people with complex needs.

You will ideally be:

  • Experienced working with SEN, PMLD or complex needs.
  • Confident supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.
  • Comfortable supporting pupils with autism and communication difficulties.
  • Patient and understanding, with a calm approach to challenging situations.
  • Comfortable providing personal care where required.
  • Flexible and willing to get involved in all aspects of school life, including hydrotherapy.
  • Confident following individualised learning, care and behaviour plans.
  • Able to build strong and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • A positive and reliable team player who works well alongside teachers and specialist professionals.
  • Passionate about helping every pupil develop their confidence, independence and potential.

Requirements

  • Experience working within a specialist school, SEND setting, care setting or secondary environment is desirable.
  • Experience supporting pupils with complex needs, PMLD, autism or communication difficulties is advantageous.
  • Minimum Grade 4/C in GCSE English and Maths.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A genuine passion for working with children and young people with additional needs.
