SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Leeds
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £19,860 - £21,168 per annum
Start Date: September 2026

Are you looking for a career where no two days are the same and every day brings the opportunity to make a genuine difference?

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join an exceptional specialist provision in Leeds, supporting children and young people with Autism and complex learning needs. This is far more than a classroom support role - it's an opportunity to help pupils overcome barriers, celebrate achievements, build confidence, and develop the skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond.

You'll become part of a dedicated, supportive team that places pupil wellbeing, inclusion, and personal growth at the heart of everything they do. Whether you're already experienced within SEND education or looking to develop a long-term career in specialist support, you'll receive outstanding training, mentoring, and opportunities for progression.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in helping pupils engage with learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored support to pupils with Autism and additional learning needs

  • Building positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, engagement, and emotional wellbeing

  • Supporting pupils to access learning through personalised strategies and adapted activities

  • Encouraging communication, independence, and social development

  • Implementing EHCP targets, behaviour support plans, and individual care plans

  • Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour using consistent approaches

  • Working alongside teachers, therapists, families, and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for pupils

  • Assisting with personal care, health, and medical needs where required, with full training provided

  • Monitoring and celebrating pupil progress, achievements, and personal development

  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every pupil can thrive

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND

  • Is patient, resilient, and able to remain calm in a variety of situations

  • Builds strong relationships and communicates effectively with pupils, colleagues, and families

  • Is committed to helping every pupil achieve their full potential

  • Embraces learning opportunities and is keen to develop professionally

Why Join This School?

  • Be part of a highly respected specialist setting with a strong focus on staff wellbeing and development

  • Access specialist training in Autism, communication strategies, behaviour support, and medical interventions

  • Benefit from excellent career progression opportunities within SEND education

  • Work within small classes where you can make a meaningful impact on every pupil's journey

  • Join a collaborative and welcoming team that values and supports its staff

  • Enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including wellbeing support, pension contributions, and staff discounts

  • Experience the reward of seeing pupils grow in confidence, independence, and achievement
