We are working with a specialist independent school in East Sussex that supports KS3, 4 & 5 pupils with SEMH and additional SEND needs with their education. The school provides a nurturing, structured environment focused on engagement, aspiration, and positive outcomes.

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and compassionate Deputy Headteacher to join a committed senior leadership team. This role is ideal for a qualified teacher with strong SEND experience across Key Stages 3 and 4, particularly within Science, Maths, and the wider curriculum who wants to progress into leadership, and move into a deputy head position.

You will play a key role in driving high-quality teaching and learning, curriculum development, staff leadership, and pupil progress, using a therapeutic and inclusive approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support high-quality teaching and learning across the school

• Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress and achievement

• Support preparation for external examinations

• Contribute to whole-school curriculum strategy and development

• Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing through therapeutic practice

• Line manage and support staff, fostering collaboration and professional growth

• Work closely with parents and external professionals to secure positive outcomes

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Significant experience working with pupils with SEND, particularly SEMH

• Previous middle or senior leadership experience

• Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills

• Proactive, adaptable, and values-led approach
