Hours: Term Time Only | Monday-Friday | 8:30am-3:30pm
Salary: £22,000-£24,000 per year
About the Role
NextGen Teachers are seeking a passionate and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Barnsley.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You'll play a key role in helping students feel safe, supported, and motivated to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Provide consistent, nurturing support to pupils with SEMH needs.
Assist with individual learning plans, classroom activities, and daily routines.
Model positive behaviour and reinforce clear, supportive boundaries.
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff.
Help create a calm, engaging, and structured learning environment where every child feels valued.
What We're Looking For
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or in a care setting.
Proven classroom experience.
Strong understanding of positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.
A valid driving licence (and ideally access to a car).
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards it.
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people.
