About the Role

NextGen Teachers are seeking a passionate and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive school in Barnsley.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You'll play a key role in helping students feel safe, supported, and motivated to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, nurturing support to pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Assist with individual learning plans, classroom activities, and daily routines.

  • Model positive behaviour and reinforce clear, supportive boundaries.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, families, and staff.

  • Help create a calm, engaging, and structured learning environment where every child feels valued.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or in a care setting.

  • Proven classroom experience.

  • Strong understanding of positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques.

  • A valid driving licence (and ideally access to a car).

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards it.

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people.

What's on Offer

  • £22,000-£24,000 per year, depending on experience.

  • Term-time only hours for a great work-life balance.

  • Ongoing professional development and guidance from an experienced school team.

  • The chance to make a real difference every single day.
