A specialist school in Horsham is looking for Teaching Assistants and Learning Support Assistants to join its team, supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs.

There are opportunities across both primary and secondary settings, so there may be flexibility depending on your experience and the age group you'd most enjoy working with.

This could suit an experienced SEN professional, but it's also worth considering if your background is in youth work, care, support work, behaviour, mental health or childcare.

What makes the role different?

You'll work in small classes, meaning you can really get to know the pupils you're supporting rather than simply being one person in a busy classroom.

You'll be part of a wider team that includes teachers, therapists and pastoral professionals, all working together to help pupils overcome barriers to learning.

Your role could include:

• Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups

• Helping children and young people engage with learning

• Supporting SEMH, Autism, ADHD and additional needs

• Helping pupils recognise and manage their emotions

• Encouraging positive behaviour and coping strategies

• Building consistent, trusting relationships

• Supporting literacy, numeracy and classroom activities

• Developing pupils' confidence, independence and resilience

• Helping young people overcome barriers that may have affected their education

• Working alongside teachers, therapists and pastoral staff

The focus isn't just on what happens in the classroom. You'll help pupils develop the confidence, communication and independence they need beyond school too.

Your previous job doesn't have to be "Teaching Assistant"

Experience with SEMH, SEND, Autism, ADHD, behaviour or emotional wellbeing is useful, but we're particularly interested in people who are patient, consistent and able to build positive relationships with young people.
