SEN Teaching Assistant - Complex Needs

Location: SEN School, Wakefield

A specialist SEN school in Wakefield / Pontefract that NextGen Teachers work with exclusively are seeking to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team on a full-time basis. This role involves supporting pupils with complex learning needs, helping them access education in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.

The school is ideally looking for someone with Team Teach training and experience supporting pupils with personal care and PEG feeding, as many pupils have significant medical and physical needs.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is patient, attentive, and passionate about supporting children with complex needs to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex SEN needs.

  • Assist the class teacher in delivering individualised and sensory-based learning activities.

  • Support pupils with personal care routines, ensuring dignity and wellbeing at all times.

  • Assist with PEG feeding where required, following appropriate training and guidance.

  • Use Team Teach strategies to support positive behaviour and ensure pupil safety.

  • Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for all pupils.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff to meet pupils' individual needs.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex SEN needs.

  • Team Teach training (preferred).

  • Experience providing personal care and PEG feeding support.

  • A calm, patient, and compassionate approach.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional and complex needs.
