NextGen Teachers are recruiting a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive school in Barnsley. This is a permanent opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful, daily impact on pupils with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You'll support a small, consistent group of pupils-providing structure, calm, and emotional stability to help them regulate, build trust, and engage positively with learning.

Your Responsibilities

  • Support a designated group of pupils with complex SEMH needs

  • Provide calm, structured guidance during lessons and transitions

  • Use de-escalation strategies and emotional regulation techniques

  • Build strong, trusting relationships and act as a consistent, reliable adult

  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and predictable learning environment

What You Need

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH or complex needs (school, care, PRU, or similar)

  • Understanding of behaviour support and de-escalation

  • Ability to motivate and engage pupils with diverse needs

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)

  • Level 3 qualification (or willingness to work towards it)

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a car
